Stefano Colantuono was born in Rome on the 23rd of October 1962. He was a successful football player and began his career during the season 1979/80 as an amateur player in the Anzio club. During the following twenty years he played in Velletri, Ternana, Arezzo, Pisa, Avellino, Como, Ascoli, Frosinone, Fermana, Sambenedettese, Maceratese, Sestrese and once again in Sambenedettese. While he was still playing in Sambenedettese, in march 2002, the president of the club, Alessandro Gaucci, after having changed three managers, asked him to become the new manager in order not to be relegated. Colantuono accepted, won nine matches out of nine and brought the club to the playoffs, winning them also. So he started by chance his career as a manager. After another year in Sambenedettese, winning once again the playoffs, Gaucci named him as the new manager of Catania club in Serie B and after that, during the season 2004-2005, he was Perugia's manager, always in Serie B. Colantuono did an excellent job and team reached the playoffs' final, but this time, after playing twice against Torino, Perugia lost. Nevertheless the club was promoted in Serie A because of the penalization of Genoa. The next season, however, Perugia couldn't take part in the Italian league and the club promotion was definitely cancelled from the Italian football history. But Guidolin didn't give up: he became the new manager of Atalanta, bringing the team back to Serie A, and during the season 2006-2007 the club ranked 8th always in Serie A. On the 7th of June Colantuono accepted Maurizio Zamparini's offer, and started working for Palermo club. However he was removed on November the 26th.
